Feel like anxiety is running your life? Let’s change that!

If anxiety, panic or intrusive thoughts are beginning to dictate what you do, where you go, or how you feel, therapy with myself can help you break out of this.

I’m Arlene, a CBT therapist with a warm, compassionate but practical approach. I work with people experiencing emetophobia, alongside panic attacks, OCD, health and social anxiety. My aim is to help you understand what keeps your difficulties going and develop new ways of responding to your thoughts and feelings to help you achieve a life worth living.

A little bit about me

Hi, I am Arlene O’Neill

I am from Ireland but have made my 2nd home in England for 5 years now and I live with my loving and supportive partner. We have created a lovely home for ourselves and we love cosy nights in but also like to explore new restaurants and go to music gigs. Outside of work I like to travel, visit home in Ireland, spend time with friends and try new hobbies such as Irish dancing and joining book clubs and cooking.

What drew me into being a therapist

I have always been the more emotionally intelligent member of my family, tuning into others mood and emotions. I always wanted to understand more about this to provide comfort and relief. So, it wasn’t a surprise that I chose a career that meant offering empathy, compassion and listening skills on a daily basis.

What can I do for you

Whether you are looking to address specific symptoms, break unhelpful cycles, or simply gain a deeper understanding of yourself in order to encourage change and growth, my sessions are tailored to your unique goals at a pace that feels right for you.

Drawing on extensive clinical experience, I provide a safe, collaborative, and non-judgmental space to explore difficulties such as Emetophobia, OCD,  Healthy anxiety, Panic and Social anxiety.

My professional background

I originally trained as a teacher and also have an undergraduate degree in Information Technology (IT). My teaching background has given me a strong interest in helping people learn and develop new skills, which is something I bring into every session to help people learn how to overcome their anxiety.

I have worked within the NHS for the past six years, gaining a wide range of experience supporting people various mental health difficulties. Prior to this, I spent around four years working in a mental health day unit, where I provided courses, activities and support to people experiencing difficulties with their mental health.

I have completed two postgraduate degrees in CBT at both low-intensity and high-intensity levels, giving me experience in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions across different levels of need.

What is a CBT Associate?*

An associate therapist is a qualified CBT therapist with their own private practice who works alongside Emetophobia UK to provide evidence-based support for people with emetophobia.
